Some New Year’s Eves come along and I make a resolution. Sometimes I follow through, and other times I forget what I resolved to do by February. It’s never been an important time of renewal for me. I find that September is that time for me; the new school year, Rosh Hashanah ( the Jewish new year) and Yom Kippur (the Jewish day of atonement) prompt me to look within and refocus my resolve to attain my goals or make changes in my life. It’s the day after Christmas and all through the house is… the aftermath of a wonderful and blissful holiday season, right? You might just want to say, “cue circus music.” Where are those elves when you need them to deconstruct and store the holiday décor?

Every year in October, I start making my Christmas shopping list. Every year I vow that I will get my shopping done early. Every year . . . . .I don’t. Usually, I spend so much time focusing on the “big gifts,” that I completely neglect the stocking stuffers until they become the very last things I purchase. I end up making a mad dash through the store on one the last days the kids are in school before Christmas break and not putting a whole lot of thought into what I’m buying.
