Expressing Motherhood Is Taking Submissions!
Posted by: Flicksters on June 15th, 2012When I moved to Los Angeles in 1999 I had visions of myself becoming the next Steven Spielberg. Well, OK, the blonde, female version. I pursued my passion, entertainment. So when I became a mom I thought the artist in me would just have to die. Not really, but I didn’t know what to do with her.
Lucky for me my great friend and fellow mom Jessica Cribbs and I decided to start a show that would consist of people sharing their stories about motherhood on stage. We had never produced for theatre before, but figured we were raising people, so we could do anything.
We built the show around the computer and worked on it during nap times. We’ve been showcasing moms, dads, sons, daughters, really everyone who has a story to tell about motherhood since the conception. It’s been a blast. The show is really catered towards the mom who has the burning desire to express herself. We’ve had women perform who have never been on stage before. We’ve also had actors, writers, doctors, you name it. We keep rehearsals shorts and cast people off of their stories via the internet. We are firm believers in the power of a good, true story. We also accept comedy routines, singers, dancers, if you are up for expressing it, we are probably up for helping you do just that.
The show has gone national, selling out in NYC and Boston. Our next show is slated for LA this Fall, if you are interested in submitting please do! Go to our website to read up on details regarding the submission process. Basically we are looking for 5 minute, true stories about some insight you have about motherhood. If you can’t make our LA show, and yes we’ve had moms fly out from different states to perform, then please contact us about hosting a night at your home, get your friends together watch some of our performers via a free DVD and talk. Enjoy!
The internet has been such a gift to us moms, but we are big believers in getting together in real life… In the same room!
Expressing Motherhood will be heading to another city soon. We’ve both had 4 more babies since 2008 and we are keeping it local this year, so we don’t go loco.
If you are interested in submitting please do not hesitate to contact me!
