DIY Powder Dishwasher Detergent

I never thought I’d see the day when I would make my own dishwasher detergent. Well, today is that day. I’ve tried “green” detergent from the store but in my humble opinion, this works much better.

My dishes come out sparkly and clean every time. The powder has Borax which is a natural cleaner and disinfectant. It also has Washing Soda which is a great all-purpose cleaner that cuts grease. Kosher salt reduces the effects of hard water and lemon essential oil has antibacterial properties.

I hope you enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 cup Washing Soda (not baking soda)
1 cup Borax
1/4 cup Kosher Salt (you can omit if you don’t have hard water)
1/2 Tbs. Lemon essential oil

Directions:

In a large bowl, mix all of the ingredients with a fork, making sure to blend the essential oil into the powder. Store in an airtight container.

How To Use:

Add 1 tablespoon to your dishwasher and splash about 1/3 cup of distilled white vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher. Vinegar adds to the cleaning power and helps reduce water stains on dishes.
