You know how people say they have 2 left feet? Well I have 2 left hands…I am just THAT awkward when it comes to decorating cakes. Though it shouldn’t have, this cake took me a few tries and as many tantrums to get it just right. However, once I was able to successfully make it and have it look decent, I felt triumphant. If you follow my notes below, this cake is a quick and easy way to make food festive without too much extra work involved!
Patriotic Flag Cake
1 box of Angel Food Cake mix
Low fat whipped cream
Fresh strawberries (sliced)
Note: When rinsing the strawberries and blueberries, be sure to blot each and every single one with paper towels. This is very important, because if you don’t, the juices from the fruit will leak all over the cake and look like a messy water color painting your toddler made. This will cause you to burst into hot, messy tears and throw the entire cake into the sink. Or so I have heard.
Following the directions on the box, go ahead and bake the Angel Food Cake in a 9×13 glass baking dish. Once cooled, thickly spread whipped cream over the entire cake. Eat remaining whipped cream from the tub with a spoon. Place blueberries in a square/rectangular pattern at the top left corner of the cake, then start making stripes with your sliced strawberries. REMEMBER TO BLOT ALL OF THE FRUIT! Your healthy-ish dessert should look like this (or better):
